Podcasting!

Before taking this course, I heard of podcasting, but never actually listened to one. I would see links on websites to download them, so I knew that they were very accessible. I would have never thought of using them in the classroom until now. I think that, especially after actually making my own podcasts, that it would be an interesting and simple way to convey information in schools. I spoke with the technology specialist at my school about it and she actually just purchased iPODs for the ESOL classroom to help with learning English.

In health and physical education, I could see students making podcasts about several topics. They could do interviews or reports on up-to-date health and fitness news, then relate it to their own personal lives. I would like to hear of other ideas on how I can incorporate podcasting in my curriculum!

Jen,
You could use it to disperse information to your class, maybe the lastest fitness news or nutrition information. It also could be used by students to gather information on fitness or health. They would have to bring you a podcast on a topic. It would start them researching health topics. I guess you would have to know there was a podcast out there that you wanted them to find.

I agree, I had an idea for digital video that I posted to Toni's blog. You should go check it out. It is kind of an idea for a semester exam grade, but in medium of a digital video assignment. As for podcasting, I sure the students would love it. I know my kids hate going to health. It's kind of a joke in my school, unfortunately. Kids would rather do anything and everything other than health assignments. I think incorporating technology like podcasting and digital video would spice up our content/curriculum and give students more interest and motivation on the topics we have to teach. I feel this would show the students that we are "hip and cool" and try new things. What do you think?

Are you an adventurous person when it comes to trying a new technology tool?
I have to admit that sometimes I am not much of an explorer. In my work I can't afford not to be but I still feel a bit anxious when I have to face a new tool.
I have found though that the whole process of learning about a new tool has promoted brain activity in me. I never saw myself as a logical person, but the experience of learning about a new tool and how it fits into my practice has promoted logical thinking.
